TITLE: Long-term 60-day estimates of C20 from Starlette and LAGEOS-1 DESCRIPTION: Estimates of C20 and its variations relative to a reference value of -4.8416945732D-04. Each estimate is based on 60-days of laser ranging from only Starlette and LAGEOS. The epoch of each estimate is the mid-point of the 60-day span used. No de-aliasing has been applied; this is the full signal. The variations and the sigmas have been scaled by 1E10. Forward models for selected low degree harmonics were used based on GRACE and GRACE-FO. Both normalized and unnormalized values are provided for convenience. The intention is to provide a series where the processing for Starlette and LAGEOS are consistent throughout the entire period, so that it may be constrasted with the 'blended' series based on up to 8 satellites. Besides the use of 60-day long-arcs, some early Starlette data was recovered from previously unknown full-rate data (circa 1977-1979). In addition, the C20 estimates were combined using internally computed uncertainties, which tended to up-weight Starlette compared to LAGEOS in the early years. This resulted in a recovery of the seasonal signal that is significantly cleaner, but the slope of the trend over the same period is somewhat reduced (compared to the 'blended' multi-satellite series). The difference in the slopes in the earlier part of the two series may provide some insight into the size of the uncertainty that should be assigned to that slope. CONTACT: John C.
